Netherlands (Dutch) passport drops in list of best passports of the world in 2025
The Henley & Partners office publishes the ‘Global Passport Ranking’ every year. In this ranking, the passports of 199 countries are compared with each other to investigate which passport allows you to visit the most other countries visa-free. This is done based on whether there is access to 227 countries.
The Dutch passport has been continuously in the top 5 of the best passports in the world since 2021. In 2024, the Netherlands ranked third.
In 2025, the Netherlands drops to position 4 in the rankings. And above all, the Netherlands must share this position with many more countries than before. Namely with the other EU member states Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Austria, and Sweden. Dutch nationals have visa-free access to 191 countries with their passport. In 2024 this was 192 countries, and in 2023 this was 188 countries.
In 2025, the following other EU member states are in position 3 in the ranking: Finland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Singapore is number 1 in the 2025 rankings with 195 visa-free destinations, and Japan is second with 193 visa-free destinations.
