Schengen visa-exempt foreigners from a number of countries can extend their stay in the Schengenarea for another 90 days after 90 days. Or longer. The maximum duration of stay in the Schengen area for visa-exempt foreigners and for foreigners with a short-stay visa is clear: 90 days in a period of 180 days.

However, nationals of Australia, Canada, Chile, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Paraguay, the United States of America and South Korea on the basis of bilateral agreements with the Netherlands  extend this 90-day period to 180 to days. Or even longer. Nationals of these ten  countries can extend their stay in the Netherlands based on these agreements by another 90 days after they have already stayed in the Schengenarea for 90 days.

They can then stay for another 90 days in another Schengen member state, with which their country also has a bilateral agreement.

For example, a New Zealand national can stay in the Schengenarea for 1,440 days.
